Maintenance of silver, brass, bronze and anodized aluminum jewelry

To keep the jewelry like new, keep the jewelry away from other metal that can rust and avoid wetting them with water or beauty products such as creams, perfumes, deodorants… In any case, except for anodized aluminum that is protected by anodizing, it is normal for silver, brass and bronze to darken little by little over time, so we give you some cleaning tips. Gentle cleaning if you don’t want to remove the dark patina from the part or you want to clean anodized aluminum:

Use soapy water that has a neutral pH and rub gently to clean dust and dirt. It will not remove the patina or coating that appears on vintage jewelry over time. Dry the piece well because water can leave marks on the metal.

 

Cleaning to make the jewelry shine:

(If the piece has a black patina, do not use this method.)

You can use a specific silver cleaner that is also used for brass or if you prefer you can use toothpaste. You apply the product on the jewelry and then polish it with a suede cloth to highlight the shine using circular movements. Finally, rinse the piece with water to remove the remains of the product and dry it with a cloth. Dry the jewelry well because water can leave marks on the metal.

 

Cleaning so that the jewelry is matte and not shiny:

(If the jewelry has a black patina, do not use this method.)

If the jewelry has darkened and you want to restore clarity but not make it shiny, use a new green kitchen scourer and rub the piece dry, without wetting either the piece or the scourer. Go over the jewelry in circular movements until it is as good as new jewelry.
